The blond steps out looking unrecognizable, much older

Though very famous and very rich, the Olsen twins have strayed away from the spotlight in later years. The two sisters are focusing their efforts on running their financial empire which is based on the fashion industry, but that means that they don't have time to press the flash like they used to.

On Thursday, November 6, the two sisters made a rare appearance at the 2014 World of Children Awards in New York City. People in attendance were shocked to see how much Mary-Kate, 28, has changed lately. The changes are so significant that she no longer resembles her famous sister Ashley.

Mary-Kate looks years older than her twin sister these days

With a tired and worn look, Mary-Kate seemed years if not decades older than her sister who seemed fresh-faced and unchanged from the last time she was spotted out in public. It's not known why Mary-Kate looked so haggard, but it might have something to do with the fact that she's been engaged to French banker Olivier Sarkozy.

Though both sisters wore minimal make-up on their outing, it's very clear that Mary-Kate isn't looking as young anymore. Could all the partying be catching up with her or is simply hanging out with an older person having a bad effect on her?

Even looking at photos of Mary-Kate from earlier this year the change is evident. Her face is looking more gaunt these days and the oversized clothes she wore at the fashion show were clearly not helping her at all.

By comparison, Mary-Kate's sister Ashley looked young and fresh

That Mary-Kate posed with her twin sister by her side didn't help either. While Ashley was the image of good health and youth, Mary-Kate looked haggard by comparison, and for some, it was like staring into the future, as one sister looked years older than the other one.

Just recently, there was the whole scandal with Renee Zellweger's new face, but surely plastic surgery can't be blamed for this particular pair of twins. Could then a stressful life be taking its toll so early on Mary-Kate or is it maybe drugs?

Unfortunately, at this point, we have only presumptions to lean on, but whatever it is, we're hoping that Mary-Kate pulls through and she comes back to her youthful looks, as exhibited by her twin sister who doesn't seem to have changed much in the last decade or so.

For Mary-Kate, this is the second time this year she's caused a stir, after it was announced that she was getting engaged to the much older Olivier Sarkozy, brother to the former French president. This union raised more than a few eyebrows because Olivier is not the most handsome man you have seen, nor is he in his prime anymore, making his relationship with Mary odd to say the least.
