Mary J. Blige's father, Thomas Blige, is currently in a critical condition at the hospital, following a dispute with his ex-girlfriend from which he emerged with several stab wounds. The 63-year-old is at the moment being taken care of at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan and doctors say he remains in critical condition. According to local newspapers, Thomas was stabbed three times.

His injuries are so severe because, in the fight, he also sustained a stab wound to the neck. He underwent surgery immediately after his arrival, but doctors have yet to release an update about his state of health.

Police officers say they found him at home in a pool of blood after responding to a domestic violence call from the apartment complex on Ramble Road at 6:58 am. They confirmed that there were also blood stains in the snow outside the apartment complex, indicating that the incident took place outside.

The attack is believed to have occurred after Thomas caught his former girlfriend deflating his tires and confronted her. A police statement confirms that the victim was stabbed in the throat, side and arm.

Law enforcement officers also found a kitchen knife at the scene and believe it is the weapon used in the assault.

Since the incident, the woman has been taken in custody and is awaiting to be arraigned at Calhoun County District Court later today. She has been charged with assault with an intent to murder.

According to local police records, this is not the first time the woman is charged with domestic assault. The former lovers have had previous incidents of this kind, though not so serious in nature. Back in October, she was charged with aggravated domestic assault and later, on January 10, she was sentenced to a 6-month probation following a no-contest plea in the case.

The court order specified that the 50-year-old was told to have “non-assaultive” contact with Thomas Blige.
