If you own the game you'll still be able to play it as normal, but it won't be available for sale anymore

Capcom has announced that it will discontinue selling Marvel vs. Capcom Origins on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live systems later this month.

If you're yet to add them to your collection and are interested in fighting games, you might as well make a move before the game is pulled.

The announcement was delivered via the Capcom Unity blog, failing to provide an explanation for the decision.

If you already own the game or get your hands on it before it gets pulled, you will still be able to play as normal, it just won't be available for sale anymore.

The expiration date is set for December 23 for the PlayStation Network version and for December 31 for the Xbox Live edition of the fighting game.

Due to the nature of the video game, the decision might be related to licensing issues, such as the expiry of the contract between Capcom and Marvel, as such licensing deals are rarely renewed.

Marvel vs. Capcom Origins was released back in 2012, developed by Capcom and Iron Galaxy Studios, that since then have taken the baton from Double Helix and are in charge of Killer Instinct, the Xbox One exclusive reboot of the classic arcade fighting game.

Hurry up before it's too late

The video game is a compilation of Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, with spruced-up visuals and a lot of challenges and unlockables added, together with the ability to play online.

Iron Galaxy Studios used the platform developed for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition to build Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, and the game also includes an arcade mode and a training mode.

Those who like online interaction can find ranked matches, eight-player lobbies, a spectator mode, and the ability to save replays.

Completing various in-game challenges rewards players with points that can unlock bonus content such as secret characters, concept art and videos.

The upcoming delisting of Marvel vs. Capcom Origins is not an isolated incident, but merely the continuation of a long series of similar moves with licensed Marvel products, following last year's discontinuation of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 from digital platforms.

The main problem with such games is finding enough people online to play with, as their fanbase generally dwindles a few months after release, but if you're a fan of the series or have friends who are into fighting games, you can always download the digital copy again and fire it up for a few matches.

The video game is available for $15 / €12 on both digital stores, and this will presumably be their final price tag.
