After a series of leaks coming yesterday, Capcom finally made it official, announcing that it plans to launch Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds in 2011, creating another chapter in the history of its long running team fighting game franchises. The title is set to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PlayStation 3 from Sony. Apparently, it will not be launched in arcade cabinets.

Capcom is saying that both the graphics and the gameplay mechanics of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be significantly updated. The MT Framework engine, which is already used in great looking titles like Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, will return to show off the detail on the characters and their animation and the complex backgrounds.

The fighting system will again emphasize teamwork between the characters with Assist Attacks and special moves becoming more powerful when they are used in tandem with those of other fighters. Capcom also promises the complex aerial moves and combos the series is known for will be returning in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Capcom is revealing that it will create a new “moving comic” style for the game, blending 2D and 3D. The developer also says that as many characters as possible will be included, with the initial promotional material showing off Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Magneto from Marvel and Chun-Li, Chris Redfield, Ruy, Frank West, Dante and Felicia from the Capcom side.

Christian Svensson, the corporate officer and vice president of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Capcom, stated, “We are so pleased to be working with Marvel again. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been one of the most requested titles for us to produce by our fans. Our Capcom development studio is creating the most epic fighting game ever developed and Marvel’s input into that process has been invaluable.”
