Finishing touches applied

June 29 was supposed to be a big day for three groups of people: fans of Marvel comics, fans of fighting games, and fans of Capcom characters. The reason was the imminent re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the fighting game launched for the original Xbox from Microsoft, the PlayStation 2 from Sony and the Dreamcast, on the PlayStation Network and on the Xbox Live Arcade service.

No game made an appearance on Monday, so Capcom quickly told gamers how long they had to wait until they saw it.

The Capcom Twitter account has posted a new message, which reads “MvC2 is not actually coming out on June 29, sorry guys. Not sure where that rumor came from, but it's going to be closer to the end of July.”

The June 29 date was initially seen in a report that the comic book company Marvel put out in May. Apparently, the final decision about the release date is in the hands of Capcom and it has decided that a date closer to the end of July is more suited for Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

It seems that all companies are jumping on the bandwagon of re-releasing various classic fighting games and bringing them to new platforms.

Last year, Capcom managed to break records on the Xbox Live Arcade with the launch of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which prepared players for the outing of Street Fighter IV, and the same company is now thinking about taking the series to the Nintendo Wii.

Tekken 6, the fighting game from Namco Bandai and rival of Street Fighter IV, is set to arrive on October 27 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and a while later on the PSP. It will be interesting to see whether Namco Bandai becomes interested in bringing the older games in the series to players on the XBLA and the PSN.
