David Brevik, who is the president of developer Gazillion, has assured players who are interested in the upcoming Marvel Heroes MMO that the entire game will be offered for free and that there will be no hidden fees targeting those who are interested in trying it out.

The developer stated, “Everybody is saying ‘we’re free to play’ but they aren’t, it’s a small percentage of the game or something like that. From the consumer standpoint it’s hard to understand what is free-to-play and what isn’t, it feels like a buzz word at this point and it’s hard to tell.”

He added, “We designed this game as completely free-to-play from the ground up. We wanted to make the highest quality free-to-play game that had ever been made. I think we’re hitting that target. We’re creating a triple-A quality game that has deep gameplay, graphics are state of the art because we’re using Unreal Engine to render, and we aren’t just a little bit free. We’re completely free.”

Brevik acknowledges that it’s pretty hard communicating what free-to-play means to some players because many different games are using the model in very different ways.

Marvel Heroes will allow gamers to enter the universe described in comic books and create their own superpowered character.

So far, the cast of villains for Marvel Heroes includes: Doctor Doom, Magneto, Mister Sinister, Shocker, Kingpin, Rhino, Taskmaster and Bullseye.

When it comes to heroes, the developers have so far confirmed the appearance of: Cable, Captain America, Cyclops, Daredevil, Deadpool, Emma Frost, Hulk, Iron Man, Nightcrawler, The Punisher, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Thor and Wolverine.

The Gazillion team will introduce a unique set of mechanics which allows players to choose their favorite heroes to play as without stopping other players from making the same selection.

Marvel Heroes will use Unreal Engine 3 and will be launched exclusively on the PC.
