Marvel Heroes is expanding its content base with the introduction of One-Shot Stories, allowing users of the free to play massively multiplayer online action role playing game to indulge in some sweet side-stories.

Marvel Heroes is based on the popular superhero and villains franchise, with the main antagonist being the nefarious Doctor Doom. The gameplay is similar to that of the Diablo series, and the narrative is delivered in the familiar style of the comics.

One-Shots are a new type of content for Marvel Heroes, allowing the developers to tell various stories set in the fantasy universe without messing with the main storyline in any way. The new system affords the devs a lot of freedom, as the mini-stories can take place both within and outside the game’s main story and timeline.

As such, they allow the team to include new super-villains and new types of enemies who would otherwise be impossible to fit into the main storyline without breaking its continuity.

The concept for the One-Shot Stories comes from real-life comics, which are typically isolated incidents that don’t usually play a major role in the overall fate of the Marvel Universe.

The first One-Shot Story that players will be able to go through and enjoy focuses on Man-Ape, as he attempts to become king of Wakanda by overthrowing Black Panther.

Man-Ape is set on capturing one of the Wakanda’s biggest Vibranium mines, planning on using the resources against the Wakandan people and Black Panther. As the mine is fiercely guarded by the Wakandans, he had to resort to asking for help from not only the White Gorrilla Tribe, but from some other villains as well, such as Wizard and Spencer Smythe.

The Wizard and Spencer Smythe both have their eyes set on the precious Vibranium, to power their advanced weaponry and Spencer Smythe’s Spider Slayers.

The new way to explore the Marvel Heroes universe is a great addition to the massively online role playing game, because the game’s lore is pretty complex as is, and it would otherwise be difficult to fit in additional storylines without messing with the delicate balance of the story so far.

Players of Marvel Heroes can access the new One-Shot Story starting at level 20, by selecting the Terminals tab from any waypoint, in order to enjoy a change of pace and the opportunity to see some new faces which might not have otherwise made it into the game.
