Sack Boy heroes

The recently released X-Men videogame featuring Wolverine was a success. The Iron Man game would have been one if it hadn't been so poorly done. Sony is working on creating a superhero-themed MMO based on a license from DC Comics. So, it's clear that there's an ever increasing convergence between the worlds of videogaming and comic books.

It seems that Sony has also entered into an agreement with the other big comic book publisher, Marvel, and the first fruits of their collaboration will be seen in new downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet, which was created by Media Molecule, bringing superheroes like Captain America, Wolverine or the pictured Iron Man to the platforming title.

It's not clear where the costumes will only have purely cosmetic value or whether superpowers will be available to those who download and use them. Marvel and Sony also failed to provide a timeframe for the DLC packs.

The images, snapped by consumer site Kotaku, are clearly labeled as “Concept Art” meaning that the version players get for their Sack Boy characters will likely be somewhat different. From what we've seen, the Wolverine rendering needs the biggest amount of work, while the Iron Man costume, which can be admired in the picture accompanying this article, seems pretty much finished.

The three announced DLC offerings, Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America, are probably only the tip of the spear. If they are successful in sales, then Marvel and Sony will deliver more costumes, and players of LittleBigPlanet might even be encouraged to create levels that are connected to the adventures of the pictured heroes in the Marvel universe. Frankly speaking, it’s a bit weird not to see Spider Man in the announced DLC, considering the huge popularity that the three movies in the franchise have enjoyed.
