“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has been out in theaters for just a few days but it’s already proven a smashing success. Not that anyone expected any less of this second installment in the Cap’s own franchise, so this announcement from Marvel shouldn’t really be that much of a surprise.

The third film in the series, which is yet to be titled, will be released on May 6, 2016. “Before the untitled ‘Captain America 3’ hits theaters, though, fans can next see Cap when he joins the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes once more in Marvel's ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ on May 1, 2015!,” Marvel says.

So, with both May slots already taken by Marvel superhero films, it’s clear that the studio has a strong grip on a month that is now considered the kickoff of the summer blockbuster season.

As for what the third film might be about, those who’ve seen “The Winter Soldier” and especially had the patience to wait for the second Easter egg placed right at the end of the credits probably have a good idea of what it’ll be about.

An educated guess would be that it would pick up the story from where it was left and reunite the Captain with his childhood friend Bucky Barnes who, until not long ago, he assumed dead. In fact, Marvel bosses once hinted this much, saying that the second and third “Captain” films were like a big, two-part single movie.
