Marvel President Kevin Feige makes the biggest Marvel announcement ever: 11 superhero movies through 2019

If you’re a fan of comic book-based / superhero movies, then you’re pretty much set for the next 7 years. Nay, considering the announcements rolling out from Marvel, which is rushing to compete with Warner Bros.’, you might even get tired of these films by that time.

Until that happens though, we have good news: in a special event, Marvel has announced its entire superhero lineup through 2019, and the list is as surprising as it’s diverse.

You will find it available in full below, if you want to know the exact dates you should write down in your calendar.

A first for Marvel with Black Panther and Captain Marvel

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige headed the special event held at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood, but guests also included Joss Whedon, director of the first “Avengers” movie but also of the sequel that’s coming out next year, Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr., Captain America Chris Evans, and Chadwick Boseman.

Chadwick Boseman is a newcomer to the Marvel universe and he has the “honor” of being the first black man to carry an entire superhero film for the studio: he will be Black Panther and he’s getting his standalone pic farther down the line.

Marvel ticked another first with the announcement: it’s planning to release its first-ever female superhero film. However, despite rumors and even promises (from Feige himself, no less) that this movie would be a Black Widow one, it looks like they’ve decided to go in a different direction.

So, Captain Marvel will be getting a standalone movie, a female superhero who hasn’t even been introduced to moviegoers yet, but that comic book fans must already know. An actress has not been cast yet for the role, but the announcement having been made now, it’s probably safe to expect speculation on who might fill those shoes (and tights) to begin soon.

The superhero movie genre is reaching its peak

Not to be too pessimistic about this or anything, but with so many superhero movies planned for release through to 2020, it’s likely that the genre will die down after that deadline.

As of now, Warners and Marvel have 21 movies planned in between the two, with 2017 and 2018 being the most crowded years, with 5 releases each. Even a comic book diehard fan can see how this could constitute into a superhero overdose, whether we like it or not.

Hopefully, both Marvel and Warners will deliver on their end, offering solid films and not just action flicks that you forget the instant you walk out of the theater.
