Despite talks that he will retire soon, legendary director Martin Scorsese is still adding his name to different projects around Hollywood. The latest one might have you perking up your ears in anticipation. Scorsese has just been reported to be planning a TV series based on the Oscar-winning film “Shutter Island.”

The original film that came out in 2010 and starred Leonardo DiCaprio enjoyed a huge success, as did the Dennis Lehane novel it was based on. Hollywood Reporter is now claiming that the new series is going to be called “Ashecliffe” and that it's going to be set in an isolate mental hospital, before the events of the movie ever take place.

The prequel thus wants to “explore the hospital's past and misdeeds by its founders – a la FX's American Horror Story: Asylum.” The good news is that Dennis Leane has also been brought along on the project and he will be writing the script on the new series, together with Tom Bernardo.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio will also be attached to the project, as an executive producer, along with Brad Fischer and Rick Yorn. The series is going to be set in 1950s America and it's likely going to follow the same dark tone present in “Shutter Island.”
