It is very seldom that a real genius is also an app developer. Martin Hairer has proved that he can be both and be honored for that. He has two apps in the Mac App Store and he is the author of The Theory of Regularity Structures.

According to the Simons Foundation newspaper, his 180-page masterpiece was called the Lord of Rings of Mathematics because Martin has created a whole world. This would be the first time in history when such a theory had emerged from the mind of a single person.

Besides his genius, Hairer is a rock music lover and a computer programmer. Today he was announced as one of the four recipients of the 2014 Fields Medal. He is also the creator of the sound editing apps Amadeus Lite and Amadeus Pro, both in the Mac App Store. It was his knowledge of signal compression technic used in audio and image processing that inspired his new theory.

The cited source says that Hairer's theory provides the tools and the instructions for solving a huge class of equations that were not even understood before.

Back in 1988, Martin got a Macintosh II computer and he quickly became a programmer. Back then, he was creating visualizations of fractals and has put together a program for solving ordinary differential equations.

He won several European prizes for Young Scientists and he became interested in physics of the sound. Martin wanted to write a program that could extract the notes from the audio recordings on his computer. That was apparently too difficult, but he created a program that was good for manipulating recordings. That was the first version of Amadeus and Martin was only 16 years old.

In 2011, he realized he could solve a mathematical problem by using the so-called wavelets. He used the same wavelets as a function in Amadeus app.

His apps have been in the Mac App Store since 2012 and they are regularly updated. Amadeus Pro is an app that can be used for any audio-related task from live audio recording to creating iPhone ringtones. You can also digitize old tapes, convert sound formats and remaster your entire iTunes music library.

Amadeus Pro has built-in audio effects and it can also be used with plug-ins. The software has been compared to Logic Pro, the gold standard in audio recording and editing.
