It’s stupid of her to want to “become the next Martha Stewart,” she says

Just recently, former “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively made her transition from acting to lifestyle guru, with the launch of her lifestyle website and brand Preserve, fashioned after Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop project, which, in turn, was modeled to Martha Stewart’s career. Blake should not hope of becoming “the next Martha,” though.

Martha Stewart herself doesn’t understand why she’d set such a “stupid” goal for herself, the Daily Mail informs. The two are actually friends, and Martha helped Blake plan her 2012 wedding to Ryan Reynolds – and this, although sounding like a diss, is not one.

“Let her try,” Martha says in a new interview, when asked about Blake’s Preserve. She’s probably referring to claims that Blake is going after her crown.

“I don't mean that facetiously! I mean, it's stupid, she could be an actress! Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress? I just did a movie yesterday, though – I can't even tell you about it – but I want to be Blake Lively,” Martha continues.

It seems like she’s saying Blake should know her place: stick to acting and leave the lifestyle guru-type of business to people like herself. In reality, Martha is trying to say that Blake should not want to be a new version of Martha Stewart, but attempt to impose herself in the industry as Blake Lively.

In the same interview, it becomes crystal clear that Martha has nothing but love for Blake, whom she met when she Ryan bought a house in her neighborhood. They weren’t married at the time but, as Martha organized the ceremony later, they became even closer friends.

“She moved into my neighbourhood a couple of years ago with Ryan – before they got married, they bought a house right around the corner from my house. And they started to come over, not to borrow sugar, but just as friends,” she reveals.

So Martha’s advice for Blake would be: if she must go down this road, she might as well do it as herself and not compare herself to her even if she considers her a role model.

This is a warm response to the launch of Blake’s lifestyle brand compared to the criticism she’s already received online. Endeavors of this type – and Paltrow can confirm that – are usually considered by celebrity pundits a way for celebrities to shove expensive products down their fans’ throats and, as such, they get just the kind of reporting as you might expect.

When Blake revealed plans for her next project (i.e. the Preserve brand), not few were those who said that she was turning lifestyle guru because she’d seen she didn’t have what it took to make in Hollywood, so she needed a backup plan. Well, at least Martha Stewart seems to believe in her.
