Domestic goddess Martha Stewart has always been very open about her love of dogs; in fact, hers even have their own blog. The other day, Stewart was rushed to the emergency room after pup Francesca busted open her lip.
The incident occurred as Martha was getting ready to head out to work,
TMZ reports, which also has the photos of the injury that required no less than 9 stitches.
She leaned over Francesca, who was sleeping, so as to tell her goodbye, which is when the dog was startled and hit her in the mouth, causing the aforementioned gash that wouldn’t stop bleeding.
“Martha was getting ready to leave her NY home Tuesday when she leaned over to ‘whisper goodbye’ to her dozing french bulldog, Francesca. But Martha says she must have ‘startled’ the dog, because Franny shot upwards and hit Martha in the face... busting her lip open,” TMZ writes.
After she was headbutted, Martha tried to stop the bleeding herself, before realizing she actually needed a bit more than bandages to fix the damage that’s been done.
“Martha says she ‘felt a bit of whiplash as blood gushed forth from [her] split lip.’ Unable to stop the bleeding herself, Martha first called police to ask for a ride... before remembering that she had a driver on standby,” TMZ says.
The driver took her to the emergency room, where she got 9 stitches on the gash. She was let out of the hospital almost immediately, but not before she had the injuries well documented.
Later on, Stewart put the pictures of her lip injury up on her official blog.
As also noted above, the star is famous for her love of dogs and how close she is to them. In 2009, Stewart was left heartbroken when one of her pooches was killed in a kennel explosion.
