You won't have to look to the stars to spot UFOs anymore

Levitation has always been a dream of man. The ability to move things without touching them, merely with the power of the mind, will always have a charm of its own. Just like UFOs. No wonder CrazyBaby decided to combine the two.

The company has begun to accept pre-orders for a very special speaker, or rather speaker system, called the Mars.

The name is definitely not self-explanatory. The word can make you think of anything from the red planet and the Roman god of War to Mars energy bars.

This particular Mars is very unusual even among the many products that share the same name. After all, not many things can levitate. Yet that's the main selling point of the speaker: it can float thanks to Gravitron Levitation Technology.

The Mars levitating speaker

Gravitron Levitation Technology allows the Mars to float above the base built into the cylindrical subwoofer charging station. The speaker part of the product is called the “craft,” while the base doesn't possess any special moniker.

You can probably see why the comparison to a UFO is so appropriate, even though it's technically incorrect. After all, UFO means unidentified flying object, and the Mars is most definitely not unidentified.

The speaker “craft” measures 4.7 inches / 119 mm in diameter and 1.3 inches / 33 mm in height. The dynamic drive is a 1-3/4" with full sound range, capable of projecting sound in 360 degrees.

The “base” has the same 360-degree audio generation capability and measures 5.2 inches / 132 mm in diameter and 7.9 inches / 200 mm in height.

The subwoofer unit and charging station is also where the microphone is located, allowing you to take calls from your phone or PC (via Skype or whatever other means).

Aircraft-grade aluminum is used for both the craft and the subwoofer unit. Quite appropriate, if we do say so ourselves. Which we do, since there's no point wasting a good pun.

Availability and pricing

The Mars speaker from CrazyBaby is up for pre-order through Indiegogo, as part of a crowdfunding campaign that has already more than doubled the cash intended to be raised. The price is of $169 / €169. A stereo setup of two speakers can be acquired for $309 / €309. Shipments will begin in April 2015. By car, unfortunately. Black, white, blue, yellow, red, purple, and other color options are available to choose from.

And yes, the setup is waterproof, so you can take it with you on a road trip or hike if you're so inclined. The dew or light rain won't kill it.
