Klei Entertainment, the developer of the popular Shank series, has confirmed that it's going to release a downloadable expansion for its most recent Mark of the Ninja game, in the form of the Special Edition, which brings a new level as well as new items and commentary from its creators.

Klei impressed many fans with its top-notch visual style and the gory 2D side-scrolling action seen in its Shank titles.

With Mark of the Ninja, however, the studio showed that it could deliver a very impressive stealth game that works and feels great.

While the game was a cohesive experience, Klei has confirmed that it's going to release a special DLC for the game this summer, in the form of the Mark of the Ninja: Special Edition add-on.

"We're happy to announce the Mark of the Ninja Special Edition DLC! We built Mark of the Ninja to be a complete experience, both in terms of its mechanics and its narrative. But after the tremendous response we received, we felt we should do something special for everyone that supported us and the game."

The new DLC will bring a prequel level, as well as a new style of play, fresh items and developer commentary that can be accessed when going through the game's story. Check out all the features of this new add-on below, via the official website.

• A new level, set in a flashback to the early life of Dosan that will set the stage for the events that transpire in Mark of the Ninja. • A new style of play, which includes a nonlethal takedown ability, and provides a hybrid of lethal and nonlethal approaches to the game. • Two new items, one more geared to stealth and concealment and one a bit more direct. Both the items and the new play style will be available in the main game as well as the new level. • Finally, we've added a ton of developer commentary to the main game. All the original levels will feature a number of commentary nodes that discuss various aspects of the game's creation, anecdotes, at least two history lessons and other behind the scenes info from nearly everyone on the team. • Developer commentary has been fully localized for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese.

The Mark of the Ninja: Special Edition DLC will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade and Steam for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, respectively.

Until then, check out the impressive trailer below.
