Google+ is still very restrictive in terms of who and how many people can get in, yet several tens of thousands, perhaps more, already have an account.

What's more, many web and tech stars have an account as well and, because there is a way of following users, Twitters-style, in Google+, some users have amassed tens of thousands of followers.

How many followers do the most popular Google+ users have? Where do you stand compared to your friends? These are the burning questions that the new Socialstatistics.com site aims to answer.

The site simply displays a list of the top 100 most followed users on Google+ and it doesn't seem to be extremely up-to-date, but it's as good as it gets at this point.

So, this begs the question, just who is the most popular Google+ user right now?

If you haven't read the headline already, you may think that it's probably one of the Google guys, since both co-founders along with plenty of execs have public Google+ profiles.

But you'd be surprised to find out that it's actually Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg that has the most followers.

Socialstatistics pegs Facebook ruler, who has surprisingly but understandably created a Google+ account, at more than 21,000 followers, more than enough for the top spot.

In reality though, as you can check for yourself by visiting Zuckerberg's Google+ page, he has close to 35,000 at this point.

Coming in second best is Google co-founder and new CEO Larry Page, with close to 24,000 followers (or 'circlers' maybe?) followed by the other Google co-founder Sergey Brin, with close to 19,000 followers.

Vic Gundotra, who plays a crucial role in leading Google's social efforts, and by extension Google+, is the fourth more popular with a little over 17,000 people having added him in their circles.

Of course, Google+ is less than a week old so the list will likely change dramatically as more users are let in and more famous people join.
