Unfortunately for him, he has to wait at least another 3 to 4 years for that

Mark Wahlberg is already the leading man of a huge franchise, having been cast in “Transformers 4,” but he wouldn’t turn down the chance of dabbling into comic book movies either.

Speaking with Yahoo! UK about his most recent action flick, the buddy cop movie “2 Guns,” Wahlberg says that this kind of movies has a special appeal for him because he loves playing real people.

However, he wouldn’t say no to playing a superhero-type.

“I would like to take over the ‘Iron Man’ franchise for Robert Downey [but] it’s one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I’ve never been asked,” he says.

Once, he came very close to playing one such character but, fortunately for him, it didn’t happen.

“Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in ‘Batman [Forever].’ Somebody dodged a bullet!” Mark laughs.

I assume he’s joking about the Iron Man role but, even if he was serious, he’d still have to wait at least another 3 or 4 years, because RDJ has already agreed to do 2 more “Avengers” movies.
