Subtlety was never Michael Bay’s strong suit. One day after hinting that Internet rumors “might” have made him “consider” Mark Wahlberg for a part in “Transformers 4,” the director is confirming the casting choice.

Yes, Mark Wahlberg will be in the next “Transformers,” presumably filling in for Shia LaBeouf, who had long decided he didn’t want to be part of the franchise anymore.

“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on ‘Pain and Gain’ and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the ‘Transformers’ legacy,” Bay says, as cited by Too Fab.

Fans (myself included) could argue that Mark has done too many “serious” movies to take a step back now by doing a purely action one like “Transformers.”

Then again, part of his appeal is this ability he has of being silly or serious depending on the situation – and doing a wonderful job in both cases. This could actually work.

“Transformers 4” will be out in June 2014.
