Mark Shuttleworth Wins the “Big Brother Award” for Unity Online Search
The founder of Canonical will not pick up his prize, most likely
Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical, has picked up an award called “Big Brother Award” for the online search function in Ubuntu operating systems.Similar to the “RAZZIE Awards” that are given to the bad movies every year, Canonical and Mark Shuttleworth have received the “Big Brother Award.”
The prize is offered by Big Brother Awards Austria, which at first glance is not a serious enterprise. The comments used to motivate this decision are not all that fair and do not represent the complete truth.
In all fairness, Canonical is trying to anonymize the searches and they seem to handle it quite well. Moreover, the feature can be turned off and the user is informed from the beginning.
In any case, it's unlikely that Mark Shuttleworth will be picking up his prize.
