Nintendo confirms that a special cross-buy system is coming soon to its Wii U and 3DS platforms on March 20, when Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars launches as a digital game on the two devices.

Sony surprised quite a lot of people a few years ago when it introduced the cross-buy system across its PS Vita, PS3, and PS4 platforms, allowing owners of one platform to get a game and then be allowed access to that same title on another device. The system has been a big success, with Sony generously offering it for many titles that were published by it across the PS4, PS3, or PS Vita.

Nintendo emulates the system with Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars

Now, Nintendo is seemingly emulating that same system, as it confirms in its latest Direct video conference that Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars is going to launch on March 20 for the Wii U and 3DS via the online eShop marketplace. Wii U owners who get the game will also receive a free download code for the 3DS edition, and vice versa, allowing them to keep playing no matter what platform they have access to.

It's unclear if the system will be used on other titles in the future but, considering that there have been quite a few Nintendo games that appeared on both the 3DS and Wii U, there is at least a possibility.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars also gets other details

Nintendo also shared during its presentation that Tipping Stars uses the same puzzle platformer experience seen in previous titles, in which players guide mini Mario toys to an exit across different levels using the touch control.

Players can also create their own levels and share them with others online. Those who download and enjoy the new levels can leave a tip for their creators in the form of stars. These can then be used to buy new parts in the level creator system.

You can check out a video of the nifty little game below. Look forward to its release on the two Nintendo devices on March 5, in North America, and March 20, in Europe and the rest of the world.
