Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is the sequel to the Game Boy Advance game Mario vs. Donkey Kong, itself a follow-up to the Game Boy Donkey Kong game. This title is more puzzle-oriented, now that the player controls several Mini Marios with the touch screen, instead of Mario himself. It also features the return of Pauline, whose last appearance was in the 1994 Donkey Kong game, a Game Boy sequel of the original Donkey Kong (video game). Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis was released in September 2006 in North America, with territories such as Europe, Japan or Australia getting their hands on it in the first quarter of 2007

The game starts out with Mario opening an amusement park called "Super Mini Mario World" (a possible reference to the Super NES game, Super Mario World). At the grand opening of this park, Mario is assisted by the guest of honor, Pauline. Mini-Peaches, Mini-Toads and Mini-DK are also present.

When Donkey Kong sees Pauline, he attempts to give her a Mini Donkey-Kong toy as a gift, but she ignores it and takes the Mini Mario from Mario instead. Donkey Kong becomes enraged, and kidnaps Pauline. Then, he takes her into the elevator of the amusement park, up to room R (which means the Roof, where the final battle takes place). Mario, unable to follow, sends the Mini Marios to save her, through a small entrance.

The title uses the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to allow gamers to play online all around the world. It has sold over 1 million copies and has been quite well received by critics, who've praised the innovative idea of using mini characters of the beloved gaming icons, Mario and Donkey Kong.
