While making tons of money for Nintendo

SEGA is but a shadow of its former self. And so is Sonic the Hedgehog. The only big thing the spiky mammal has done well in the recent years is to partner up with Mario in order to compete in the Olympic games.

The team was very successful for SEGA and the company is in no doubt thinking of a sequel. And it seems that rather than waiting four years for another edition of the summer Olympics, the two iconic videogame characters will be putting on their snow gear in order to go to the Winter Olympics, where all the cool mammals hang out. Of course, the Winter Olympics will take place on both the Nintendo Wii and the DS.

In a weird twist, it's a Spanish videogame magazine, called Nintento Accion and claiming to be the “official” Spanish Nintendo publication, that has an exclusive scoop on the new game set to be released by SEGA (such announcements are usually made in the English speaking gaming press).

The magazine text related to the rumored fresh game reads “Who are these two and why do they come to see each other? Find out all the details on the mystery game in the next magazine. But before that, here are some clues: games, Olympics, It's cold, It's winter...”

The scan attached to the article appeared in Kotaku and promises more details are coming about Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics. The game will probably include a wide variety of sporting events that exist in real life, with a cartoon like look, which will appeal to a wide audience. Let's just hope that the control scheme, which was a bit iffy in the first game, will be improved and that the events included will allow for a bit more interaction between the two characters, Mario and Sonic.
