A surprise winner

Do you know what British gamers want for Christmas, with the last month seeing the release of Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 or Call of Duty: Word at War? Well, they want to play Mario Kart Wii, an old title that has been in the top ten of the videogames chart for what, in the gaming world, seems like eternity. The reason is probably the fact that a lot of parents are in full shopping mode ahead of Christmas and believe that getting a racing game starring Mario for the most family friendly console on the market is a good idea.

Mario Kart Wii was at number 3 in the videogames chart and rose to number one as sales went up by 17%. At the same time, Call of Duty: World at War has dropped by a third of its sales as the Xbox 360 variant went to number two. The World War II Call of Duty title is going strong and might be on track to equaling the sales of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A Nintendo DS title, Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training, is at number three, while Wii Play is at number four.

Resistance 2 for the PlayStation 3 from Sony is at number 6, while Wii Music is hovering at number 7. The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of Need for Speed Undercover hold the ninth and tenth positions.

It's interesting to see that games like Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2 are already out of the charts, considering that they all went into the top 3 in the launch week. Meanwhile, less important releases like the various Nintendo made games in the top ten seem to be holding steady and gaining sales week after week.
