Or just planned, episodic-like releases on the disc?

Nintendo can do all sorts of strange things and what has happened with their tournament is one of the biggest of them all and it either means that DLC is slowly becoming an option for the Wii or some games are planned a long time ahead and they just know how to market them. The truth is that we can't say anything for sure yet. All we know are the facts we see: a new challenge or stage or whatever you would like to call it, has been introduced into the Mario Kart Wii tournament. But be warned: don't get too excited!

First of all, the "brand new kart racing experience" is absolutely lame. Basically, a minigame which can be finished in 15-20 seconds, this new "Galaxy Colosseum" is quite far from being galactic: there is a very small "racing" area, where you have to knock out of the arena four Spiky Topmen as fast as possible.

However, the lameness of this new mission is not necessarily the most important thing we should care about. The real question that bothers us is: Galaxy Colosseum, DLC or not? Because we know it could be, just like it happens in the DS version, a stage not normally selectable in the game. And if it is so, it means that Nintendo had a clear schedule and all the tournaments had been planned way before the game was released. Which is, let's admit it, quite strange!

However, if this indeed is downloadable content for the Nintendo Wii, it is a really strange one: the Galaxy Colosseum can only be played in the Tournament mode - which means that it could just disappear on the 9th or 10th of June. And even if it doesn't, it still is an incredibly lame addition: it can be finished in 20 seconds, for God's sake and it is not fun AT ALL! Come on, Nintendo! Mario is your biggest income source. Do something about that!
