The launch of Mario Kart 7 has made a big impression on the Japanese video game market, with the Nintendo 3DS handheld once again leaping over the 200,000 unit mark in terms of sales, according to the information on sales provided by Media Create for the week that ended on December 2.

The three dimensional capable device has managed to sell 205,962 units during the week, which is an impressive increase over the 120,920 it managed during the previous week.

The sales numbers are more than its competitors managed combined, with the closest one being the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, which took second place with sales of 40,668 units, an increase of over 6,000 over the previous seven day period.

The PlayStation Portable has taken third place in the Japanese hardware race, selling 39,547 units, also a solid increase over the 33,151 posted previously.

The Nintendo Wii is also having a resurgence, going over the 30,000 sales mark for the first time in the last few months, an increase of more than 10,000 units.

The DS, the Xbox 360 and the PS2 are again under 5,000 units sold.

When it comes to video games Mario Kart 7 has performed admirably during its first week on sale, taking the top position in the Japanese software chart with sales of 423,619 on the 3DS, something that no other titles for the platform has managed to far.

Another new entry, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs., from Namco Bandai and for the PS3, has also sold well to take second place with 349,756 copies moved to gamers.

Super Mario 3D Land from Nintendo, also for the 3DS, took third place with sales of 73,907.

The rest of the top ten includes: Assassin's Creed: Revelations, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Itadaki Street, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Power Pro Kun Pocket 14, Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze and The King of Fighters XIII.
