A retired Marine who was kidnapped by an armed group in Mexico could be the collateral victim of a property dispute.

As I wrote yesterday, Armando Torres III of Hargill, Texas was visiting his dad's ranch when he was taken, along with his father and uncle.

His aunt, Patricia Torres details that Torres's father was involved in a property battle with his next-door neighbor. He had sold a piece of land on his ranch in La Barranca, Tamaulipas to said neighbor.

When payments for the property stopped coming in, he took back the land, and the three men were kidnapped one month later. Patricia also accuses the neighbor of having ties to a local drug cartel, Christian Science Monitor writes.

"This is because of the property. [...] But the persons that had the property were involved, I believe, with the cartel because they were the ones that picked them up," she says.
