A painting of a red rose made by Marilyn Monroe for President Kennedy was sold in Saturday's auction of Monroe memorabilia. The actress never got to gave the painting to Kennedy and later she wrote a second inscription over the first: "Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe", said Darren Julien, president and chief executive of Julien's Auctions.
The painting was sold to collector David Davis, who owns an art gallery in Rhode Island, with $78,000. The address book, who contained thousand of numbers and addresses of famous people like Jean Kennedy Smith, Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Henry Fonda and ex-husband Joe Dimaggio, was sold to GoldenPlace.com for $90,000.
