Earlier this week, on Tuesday, a marijuana vending machine made its public debut in the city of Seattle in Washington, US. The machine, a photo of which is available below, is the brainchild of an Arizona-based company dubbed American Green.

Like any other vending machine, it eats money and coughs out treats. The only difference is that these treats aren't sodas or sugary snacks. Yup, what this machine offers people in exchange for money is medicinal and recreational marijuana products.

Introducing the ZaZZZ machine

Arizona-based American Green says that its marijuana vending machine, dubbed the ZaZZZ machine, is climate-controlled. What this means is that customers don't have to worry that, while waiting to be picked up, the marijuana products might go bad.

The company goes on to detail that, for the time being, the machine is operational at Seattle Caregivers, a local medical marijuana dispensary. It is understood that the dispensary's staff will be in charge of stocking it.

As detailed in a press release, the machine will offer a wide variety of medicinal and recreational pot products, together with marijuana-infused edibles and other merchandise.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the folks who designed and put together this marijuana vending machine got their inspiration from bars that, until now very long ago, sold cigarettes in the same manner.

“The 21st century was here and maybe we can upgrade on that because dispensing machines are a very effective way to service the public,” said Stephen Shearin, president and chief operating officer of American Green.

The machine will not allow easy access to weed

The folks behind American Green insist that, although some might think that their marijuana vending machine will make it easier for certain groups of people to get their hands on some pot, there really isn't nothing to worry about.

This is because the vending machine is equipped with a high-tech ID-scanner designed to check a potential customer's age, identity and background because actually offering them the marijuana products of their choice.

What's more, the company promises that, before they finally get around to letting this scanner have a look at their ID, they will first get passed employees of the Seattle Caregivers dispensary.

“You never have access to the machine ever if there isn't a human around to check your medical ID initially on your way in,” Stephen Shearin told the press in an interview.
