14 DAY TRIAL // Let's face it, eating one really good slice of pizza is nothing short of a mystical experience. In fact, it's about as close to encountering the divine as most of us could ever hope to get.
Still, the folks behind Podey Pizza are quite convinced that, unless topped with their special marijuana-infused sauce, no pizza could ever reach its full potential, no matter how much bacon or cheese adorns its perfectly circular figure.
Introducing the world's first pot-infused pizza sauce
Podey Pizza is currently marketing its very special pizza topping in California, Washington State and Colorado. The sauce is being sold in 5-ounce (about 142 grams) jars, each of them containing 300 milligrams of cannabis.
According to Huffington Post, the jars sell for $20 (about €15.6) each. Depending on how hungry they might be or how much time they are ready and willing to spend in the kitchen, folks can use the 5 ounces of sauce to make one large pizza or two smaller ones.
Before finally introducing the world to their pot-infused sauce, Podey Pizza spent quite a while perfecting the recipe and making sure that their unique topping would get the job done without making the dish taste awful and ruining people's eating experience.
In fact, they tested the sauce on some 150 to 200 pizzas that were all served to volunteers. “We spent a lot of time getting it right so the sauce didn't taste ‘green,’” Steve Thomas with Podey Pizza said. “We probably made 150-200 pizzas and would invite three or four people to try them,” he added.
This one-of-a-kind pizza sauce is not for everybody
The bad news is that, for the time being at least, Podey Pizza's sauce is only sold at special marijuana dispensaries. Thus, it is supposed to be consumed not by regular folks, but by medical cannabis users who aren't quite fond of getting their THC from candies or cookies.
Otherwise put, this sauce was not made to promote the use of marijuana as a recreational drug, but to make it possible for people suffering from various medical conditions whose symptoms cannabis can alleviate to medicate themselves simply by eating pizza.
