First of all, it doesn't really matter which market is bigger than other ones......WHAT is really important is how many sales the artist may have, and believe me that Madonna beats Mariah and not only in Europe, BUT, I guess we should go into parts in order to reply your comment my friend.
First of all, Madonna has much more sales in a smaller continent (Europe) than Mariah Carey in a bigger continent (Asia, or the places that you mentioned to be more specific) or America (US, to be more specific)

#1 It's too bad for you saying what you just said about European people JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE YOUR IDOL, it's obvious that you wrote that because of HATE to Madonna and cuz UR JEALOUS, at least that’s what your way of writing seems to be like.

#2 Mariah is not yet the biggest selling female artist in America, she hasn't surpassed Barbra Streisand yet, neither Madonna.

#3 as I said before, America may be the largest market, but that doesn't make an artist the biggest one, I mean....look at those rap and hip hop artists for god's sake!!! They have not a super stardom actually outside some parts of US. Moreover, Europe is not how you are saying and America neither. By the time Mariah received those awards, Madonna was already known by the major part of the world as the biggest selling female and GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS have published already that she sold more than 338’600’000 million albums sold, with singles counting, but in albums only, she had already more than 200 million albums sold, the rest was of singles.

guinness slightly deviates from calculated album sales. in 2001 madonna is listed as selling 120 million album in the records book. adding her sales thereafter, it would be around 160 million albums sold by now, an 18 mil difference from mine, but tallying her singles sales too, should also be around 290 million records sold.
