Although Mariah's current tour is getting mixed reviews from all over, the singer can still boast of a very large and loyal fanbase. And it is exactly those fans that she didn't want to disappoint as she prepared intensely for a Hong Kong performance.
But an Asian based company canceled the concert at the last minute and now, all that hard work is down the drain. Fortunately, Mariah Carey is not the person to just stand by as things happen to her or to her music-related plans.
Because the organizers canceled the show without prior notice and because she had invested so much time, money and effort in preparing for it, she is taking them to court. As her publicist said, the case against ONE Group Investments Private Limited is going to be an 'open-and-shut' one, as there was obvious 'breach of contractual obligations'. For that, Carey camp is asking for a fee of $1 million.
The other side of the medal comes with the statement the company's spokesperson made after they were hit with the legal notice. He said that the cancellation came as a result of very poor ticket sales (barely 4,000 out of at least 10,000 tickets) and 'last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans'.
Until now, there was no date set for a court hearing and both parties are still hoping an understanding can be reached before the suit begins.
