Count on Mariah Carey to up all the other female pop stars out there in everything she does, sometimes to results that prompt mixed reactions. Like, for instance, the official title for her 14th studio album, which has been confirmed for a May 27 release.

The album is called – you might want to brace yourself for this one – “Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.” Well, at least you can never fault this diva for showing lack of originality.

The name sounds pompous enough to have already gotten celebrity pundits snickering on virtual corners, but the fans (the Lambs, as Mariah calls them) love it. Plus, if you watch the video embedded below, which accompanied the big reveal and the release of the official artwork, Mariah explains how she came up with that name.

It’s actually a rather sweet story.

The album will be out in stores at the end of the month, but it’s already available for pre-order. The photo above is the official artwork and it’s a typical Mariah release: a gorgeous sunset, a sultry pose and a revealing outfit, and all focus on her figure. Her hair looks gorgeous, if you ask me.
