File this under “I have to see this to believe it”: one farmer claims he’s noticed his goats give more milk if he plays for them Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” so he has that song on a loop.
According to the
Express, Angus of St Helen’s Farm in Seaton Ross, near York, has noticed that goats react differently in terms of how much milk they give to various Christmas carols.
So far, Mariah Carey’s classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” seems to be the only one able to make them relax to such an extent that they actually produce more milk on a daily basis, the 57-year-old farmer says.
And it’s not like he hasn’t tried them all, he says for the aforementioned media outlet, for he actually has. It’s only Mariah’s pipes that can boost productivity to such an extent.
“We are absolutely dumbfounded by the difference playing this song has made to the goats,” Angus says. The discovery was made purely by accident, it would seem – but a very fortunate one.
“Our milk maids started listening to the radio when they were milking them. They immediately noticed the animals were more relaxed and started producing more milk as a result,” the farmer says.
“When one of the girls brought in a CD of Christmas classics they seemed to perk up when the Mariah Carey song came on. It’s really upbeat and they seem to love it,” he adds.
The milk maids are already growing a bit tired of the same song over and over again, but the goats not. “I think the staff here are sick of it now but unfortunately it works for the goats,” says the farmer.
As per Express, Angus experimented on his goats’ love of music and Christmas carols in particular. Since he has about 2,000 of them, the results are quite conclusive.
Wizzard’s “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” slowed down production, while The Chipmonks’ “The Christmas Song” killed it completely. Mariah is the winner.
