
There's no way to deny the obvious: Mariah Carey's comeback was big, now it's huge. The 20th Soul Train Awards ceremony held in Pasadena, California added two more trophies to Carey's already impressive trophy case.
Her latest album, The Emancipation of Mimi (as the singer wishes to be known from now on) was rewarded with the Best Female Album award.
We Belong Together was awarded best female single and on stage Mariah Carey declared: "This has been the biggest and most successful year of my life".
The artist, who's career started and boomed until the mid nineties had a very difficult period during the last years. Gossips and news included bulimia, attempted suicide while her movie Charm Bracelet was a total fiasco and the previous albums were demolished by both critics and listeners.
"You know that whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger," she said as reference to the difficulties she has overcome.
Other winners were: John Legend (best male album with Get Lifted and best male single, Ordinary People) Kanye West (for best R&B-soul or rap music video for Gold Digger), 16 year old Chris Brown (best new rap artist with the Run It album) and Destiny's Child (The Quincy Jones Outstanding Career Achievement for women and also best-group single for "Cater 2 U").
R. Kelly was nominated in three categories but did not win any award.
