14 DAY TRIAL // The other day, a new Mariah Carey song premiered online: it’s called “Infinity” and it’s the only new material to be included on the diva’s upcoming studio album, “#1 to Infinity,” which includes all of her 18 #1 hits.
You can listen to the track in full below. Since its release and up to now, the Internet seems to have decided that this is the closest thing that Mariah’s going to come to a “diss track,” and that the person targeted on it is none other than her future-ex-husband Nick Cannon.
If that’s true, Mariah’s laying it on thick.
Mariah calls Nick a gold-digger, all alone and broke now
Nick and Mariah were married for 6 years before separating last May. They were always somewhat of an odd couple in the eyes of the media, but they made it work for all this time until the first cracks appeared.
However, the fact that Nick was always the least successful one of the two was never overlooked, to the point where he was even dubbed Mr. Mariah Carey. That’s not to say that he’s penniless or even close to broke, but he’s definitely no match to his ex in terms of net worth.
Speaking of which, she seems to think the same thing, as illustrated on this new song.
“Name hold weight like kilos/ Boy, you actin’ so corny like Fritos/ Wouldn’t have none of that without me though,” she sings on “Infinity.” “If life was a game you’re a free throw/ It’s nothing that you don’t already know/ Is it lack of ice got you so cold?/ Have you ever felt this on your own?/ Why you tryin’ to play like you’re so grown?/ Everything you own, boy, you still owe.”
So basically, Mariah made Nick into the celebrity he is now. She also bought him everything he has, including the bling that he no longer has around his neck. She took it probably, because it was hers.
Not an amicable split
Exact details of the breakup never got out in the press on the official channels, but there have been countless rumors about the possible reasons.
Whether Nick cheated on Mariah, or he grew tired of her impossible diva ways and decided he wanted out, we might never know, but we do know this: there were very long discussions behind closed doors prior to the divorce filing, because they couldn’t reach an agreement on money and custody of their 2 kids.
This seems to point to a not-too-amicable split, an impression enforced by hints Mariah dropped in her concerts. Meanwhile, Nick has been saying that he has nothing but love for his ex because they will be “family” for life, but again, we have no way of knowing if this is his way to maintain his public image or how he really feels about the split.
