Reports say producers are looking at Mariah Carey for Simon Cowell’s US X Factor

Simon Cowell is still to announce the members of the judges panel for the US version of the X Factor but word in the industry has it that Cheryl Cole has been deemed a loose cannon and been replaced with Mariah Carey.

Ever since the music mogul announced he’d be leaving American Idol to focus on bringing X Factor to the US, speculation has been running rampant that Cheryl Cole would certainly tag along for the ride.

As fans must know, Cheryl is also on the British X Factor, while also being a close friend of Simon’s, so picking her would make sense in more ways than one.

However, Simon has decided that he cannot sacrifice the potential audience for the sake of having Cheryl with him – and will go with Mariah Carey instead, the Mirror reports.

“Look, I’ve said I’d love Cheryl out there but whether it will happen, who knows? Mariah Carey would be an amazing addition to the US show,” Simon said the other night, regarding one of his older interviews.

“And she’s exactly the right caliber of star that we want for the show. I can’t say more because it’s too early and I can’t say. But there will be surprises,” Cowell added.

A source familiar with plans for the US X Factor confirms that, indeed, producers have been in negotiations with Mariah for a position on the panel, with everything going in the right direction.

Simon, though, is still rooting for Cheryl, but the producers won’t even hear of it because they believe she’s not a big enough star to bring in the good ratings.

“They’re saying that together with her accent being difficult to understand, and nobody knowing who she is, she doesn’t have the star qualities to draw in an audience,” dishes a spy.

“They are going to be competing with American Idol’s star-studded panel of Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and J-Lo, and Cheryl just doesn’t cut it compared to them. She’s not a name,” adds the spy.

On the other hand, Mariah Carey is an artist everybody has heard of. Plus, she has extra experience and is also saucy enough to make for a super-entertaining judge.

“Mariah Carey’s people say she’s fully behind the idea and they’re very interested in taking talks further. Mariah has already had the initial meeting with Fox so she will more than likely take the spot Simon wanted for Cheryl,” the same spy explains.

I watch the British x factor on youtube. Cheryl's accent is one of the things I Like about her. She also looks like she is quite genuine and wants to help her catagory to win by choosing the songs that suit them best. I vote for Cheryl to be on the American x factor. Not the MeMeMe Mariah Carey appears to be.

Cheryl Cole cannot sing and is not talented. She mimes everything and relies on her looks and the fact the big man Simon Cowell fancies her. He is plugging her everywhere to make cash. Mariah Carey can sing without a doubt and has many years in the business and deserves the job. Mariah has class something that Cheryl Cole does not. She beats people up and has been accused of racisim more than once. She has a criminal record for being quite a nasty person. It is definitely Mariah for me with or without any faults she may have had.

I think Mariah would be brilliant for all the reasons said in the article and I agree with Fox bosses that Cheryl Cole is not talented or qualified enough to judge UK X Factor let alone the USA. She has always been given the strongest acts in order to win by Simon as he fancies her and is trying to make her famous in the USA. She hangs on to Simon Cowell for fame and to get known in the States, that does not justify her a place on the panel. Mariah Carey, on the other hand, is pure class.

Mariah Carey is beautiful and talented and can sing. Cheryl Cole cannot sing, she mimes and relies on Simon Cowell to further her career. Now Cheryl is saying in the media that she loves Simon. Maybe she is hoping that will secure the US job for her. She has committed assault and been accused of racism more than once. Not as nice as you think. Cheryl is a greedy and ambitious woman. Mariah is the correct choice. Fox TV Bosses have got it right.

racism? She was married to a black man you idiot. Cheryl is well loved in the UK and is very talented. Is she the right pick for US X factor? Not sure about that as she is not known over here. But Mariah is a Diva, amazing voice though... thank god its not J-Lo the has been.......... I am still rooting for cheryl, she is definately talented enough to break out over here...

Why not have both? The U.K. version has Danni Minogue and Cheryl Cole, so why not have Mariah and Cheryl. It'll be great for Cheryl's career and help Mariah get back out there again too!
