At the 2010 People’s Choice Awards, Mariah Carey was named Favorite R&B Artist for her single “Obsessed,” ahead of other strong contenders like Usher, Alicia Keys and Beyonce. Dressed in a gorgeous siren white gown, the singer had visible difficulties walking in it, so much so that she had her husband Nick Cannon help her make her way towards the stage, as MonstersAndCritics can confirm.

When her name was called out as the winner of the award, Mariah, obviously flushed with emotion, extended her hand to Nick because she clearly needed help getting up from her seat as well. However, it was the long and torturous “journey” to the stage that has caused some giggles in the blogosphere, with some celebrity bloggers even saying it took her many “hours and minutes” until she finally made her way to the microphone to say her acceptance speech.

Of course, the reality was far from that, but the point of the matter remains that the singer was overwhelmed by her own dress, a fact she also admitted in her speech. “Diva Mariah Carey has a new use for her toyboy husband – as a wardrobe assistant. Nick Cannon dutifully helped the 39-year-old singer onto an awards show stage after she chose to wear a rather constricting white dress,” MonstersAndCritics writes.

“I especially want to thank my husband Nick for helping me with this dress, because it’s a drama,” Mariah said at one point by means of an excuse for needing so much time to make it to the stage. “I didn’t mean to do this,” she added with a smile, while also casting a sideward glance to her husband, who remained on the stage to help her after she was done with her speech.

After thanking all the industry people that made Mariah’s latest album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” such a success, the singer went back to her husband to speak of his support through good and bad.
