14 DAY TRIAL // Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are getting a divorce after 6 years of marriage. They’re yet to file the papers or, for that matter, go public with the news of the split, but sources vouch that they’re done for good – and divorce is the only option possible at this point.
It is said that they have everything agreed upon, partly because they signed a prenuptial contract before their “I Dos.” This means that there will be no division of assets and everyone gets to walk away from the marriage with the money they made while it lasted.
Money aside, they have also settled the question of the custody of their 2 children, along with visitation rights and other complications that usually arise in such situations. But they’re yet to determine who gets the dogs.
“Bitter custody battle” over their 8 pooches
People who love pets probably understand how hard it is to part with your favorite pooch, or kitten, or even fish. With Nick and Mariah, things are even more complicated because they shared 8 dogs while married, and neither is willing to let the other keep them.
So this is what’s stalling the divorce proceedings, Life & Style magazine reports. Until they can reach an understanding about the dogs, there’s no moving forward. And until there’s any moving forward, they’re still making each other miserable.
“Miserable” is precisely the word that would describe them right now, given the situation.
“The singers are now in a bitter custody battle over their shared eight dogs. The couple, complete with their three-year-old twins and eight dogs, shared a massive New York home and several million dollar fortune,” the celebrity magazine writes.
The two singers are “unable” to come to an understanding regarding the custody of the dogs. Seeing how Mariah is said to spend several hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on spa treatments and stays for the dogs, you can see why she’s determined to get full custody of the pooches, as the report says she is.
What went wrong?
Meanwhile, speculation continues on what could have possibly gone so wrong as to make these two, who seemed so impossibly in love and committed to each other, want to get a divorce.
There’s a lot of talk of how Nick cheated on Mariah and got caught. There’s also talk that she’s such a diva that he finally had his fill and decided to put an end to their relationship, while he still had his sanity.
There is talk of fights over the way their twins, Morocco and Monroe, were being raised, with Nick insisting a stricter hand was needed, as opposed to Mariah’s attitude of “let them do whatever they feel like doing, even if that includes eating chocolates in the middle of the night.”
Nick, who is the one who confirmed he’d moved out of the house in May this year, refused to engage in any conversation on the reason of the split. However, he did address the injustice being done to Mariah with all these diva rumors, saying he had nothing but love and respect for her, and that he would always feel this way.
