Much has been said about how Mariah Carey always acts like a diva whose demands are at times too absurd even to consider, let alone fulfill, but each time, the singer herself took the time out to refute such reports. This doesn’t mean though that she doesn’t have ridiculous demands that she imposes on the people she works with, as the Herald Sun writes of a recent interview Mariah did for GMTV.
Mariah appeared on the British morning talk show to promote both her latest music album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” and her critically acclaimed film “Precious,” which is already generating serious Oscar buzz. The interview itself was a very pleasant affair, with the famed singer graciously answering to all the questions of the host, Kate Garraway, and even talking a bit about the joys of married life and how wonderful a husband Nick Cannon, also present in the audience, was.
The problem with the interview, as Garraway herself tells the British media, is that Mariah acted like a supreme diva both during and before and after the interview, which lasted only a few minutes. According to the interviewer, Carey came with a very numerous entourage and completely sealed the set before the cameras started rolling. Of said staff, for instance, she had two people whose only job was to see that she was lowered onto the sofa so that her dress did not crumple.
Another assistant made sure that the cameras were at all times shooting Mariah from the “right angles” so that not even a single shot put her in a bad light. Moreover, she reportedly brought her own toilet roll just in case the one that was already in the studio’s bathroom was not good enough for her. Her staff were constantly all over the place, which made it almost hard for the GMTV staff to see to their work, Garraway also tells the British media. Overall, the general impression was that, while Mariah is an extremely nice person in real life – not to mention talented – she does tend to act the diva to too great an extent.
“I’ve heard a lot of rumors about her being a diva over the years and guess what? It turns out it’s all true! They [Mariah’s entourage] outnumbered the entire GMTV crew! She had two people to lower her on to the GMTV sofa, in case her dress got crushed, one person to walk in front of her backwards at all times in case she fell over and several people behind the camera making sure she was going to be filmed from the right angle! Have you ever heard anything like it? Oh, and she brought her own toilet roll as well,” Garraway dishes.
