14 DAY TRIAL // Rumor has it that, despite the fact that divorce proceedings have reached a dead end because of financial arrangements they can’t agree on, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon had Thanksgiving dinner together, as a family, for the sake of their twins. The plan is to spend Christmas together as well.
As per a new report, Mariah loves the fact that Nick is making an effort and she also loves them as a family, so this precious time they spend together only serves to remind her of what she stands to lose when the divorce goes through: her picture perfect family.
The diva is a “mess” right now, sources close to her tell the media, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Can’t sleep, can’t move on
The more she talks with her attorneys about the divorce and the more it comes closer to reality, the more sleep Mariah loses: as per the insiders, she doesn’t want to lose her picture perfect family and she still hopes for reconciliation.
On the other hand, Nick seems determined to get it over with, and move on. As he said before, he will love Mariah for ever because she is the mother of his two children, but he’s not thinking about getting back with her. That chapter of his life is closed.
Recent reports have linked him to Kreesha Turner, and even though the rumors are probably not true, they left a bitter taste in Mariah’s mouth because she understands that there may be no going back for them as a couple.

Surprise breakup, prolonged divorce
News of the split came from Nick earlier this year, who casually mentioned in an interview that he and Mariah were going through a rough patch and had not lived under the same roof since May. At first, he tried to downplay the split reports, saying that this wasn’t a proper breakup, but just a worse period for them.
As it turns out, the breakup was really happening and the only reason he didn’t want the world to know about it was because he and Mariah were still meeting with attorneys to settle everything (custody and financial arrangements) before they filed the papers.
Talks proceeded smoothly, and in a few weeks’ time, they had almost everything in order. Then, at the beginning of the month, Mariah was 5 hours on the phone with her divorce attorneys because talks had hit a dead end – so she arrived for her NBC Rockefeller Center Christmas performance 3 hours late.
Apparently, money is making things difficult for them: Mariah’s money, to be more exact.
The singer’s worth is estimated at $500 million (€410.4 million) and it is believed that she and Nick didn’t sign a prenup when they were married. They also have a lot of property together, including homes in Aspen, New York, Los Angeles and the Bahamas, a private jet and an entire fleet of luxury cars.
So while they may have agreed on custody, visitation and support, they’re still to decide who gets what in the divorce.
