14 DAY TRIAL // Mariah Carey’s 6-year marriage to Nick Cannon fell apart last year, but despite rumors that she was drowning her sorrows in expensive champagne and wine, or that she was having some sort of meltdown because her heart was broken, she seems to be doing just fine - romantically too.
Rumor has it that the diva is now dating her good friend, movie director Brett Ratner. Right now, they’re sailing around the Bahamas on a fancy yacht belonging to one of Ratner’s billionaire friends.
Friends with benefits
TMZ has a photo of the two looking very cozy on the deck of said yacht. Ratner and Mimi have never made a secret that they were excellent friends, so the photo might not look like much at first sight.
However, it comes with an eyewitness account that they have now taken the relationship to the next level. “This pic was taken Saturday on a yacht in St. Barts. They're all over each other. She's totally into him and he is nuts for her,” the celebrity publication reports.
Insiders confirm that Mariah and Brett are “in full romance mode,” but they’re not yet ready to go public with it. This could either mean that the romance is relatively new, or that Mariah wants to wait until the divorce from Nick is final before going public.
For the record, the two have been friends for many years. He also directed her videos for “Obsessed” and “Touch My Body.”
Another shot at a fairytale romance, possibly
No one knows (officially so) why Nick and Mariah’s relationship soured, but rumor has it that her diva ways became too much for him to handle on a regular basis. She was also paranoid he might cheat, which is why she forced him to check in with her every half an hour when he was away, and he grew to resent her for it.
Whatever happened between them, they’re managing to keep the breakup civil enough, mostly for the sake of their 2 children, twins Moroccan and Monroe.
According to Nick, as of May last year, they were no longer living in the same house, as he had moved out some months earlier because it would be best for them and the kids. Mariah always said that they would grow old together, but even now that her dream ended, Nick respects her and would not bad-mouth her to the media.
That’s something of a rarity in showbiz.
