Mariah Carey's first pregnancy, with twins, was no walk in the park, as she often says. Besides the health complications that arose, she also gained a lot of weight – most of which she's already lost, as her Shape cover and interview can confirm.

Speaking with the fitness-oriented publication, the diva talks about the pregnancy and reveals that it was, at the same time, the most extraordinary and difficult thing she ever did in her life.

Her fans must know that Mariah is now the spokesperson for Jenny (the former Jenny Craig), which she credits with her incredible transformation.

If you don't believe us that the transformation is really “incredible,” click on the image attached to this article – it's the cover of Shape, on which the singer can be seen flaunting her toned abs.

She's clearly lost all the extra weight but it was no easy job, Mariah points out.

Fortunately, the experience has taught her to have more understanding towards those (men and women) who struggle to lose weight.

“I put on 70 lbs [31.7 kg] but if you look at me in pictures you'd think it was more like 9,000 lbs [4,082.3 kg]. I have a lot of empathy with people who have to lose a lot of weight,” says the star.

“I've been there and I know what they are going through. I remember thinking at the time: 'I'll never look or feel the same again',” Mariah adds.

She did it, of course, but it was not easy.

“Pregnancy was probably the best and the hardest thing I’ll ever go through. I know for a lot of women, it can be wonderful and relatively easy. But for me, it was like 'Okay, honey, do you have to do everything the hard way?'” Mariah jokes.

It wasn't just the pregnancy that was a challenge, but also the fact that she had to drop the extra pounds – and Mariah soon discovered nothing was as before she had the babies.

“I used to be able to slim down just by exercising more, but that’s changed. Since having the babies, I realize that 90 percent of losing weight is my diet,” she explains.

In the end, though, it all worked out just wonderfully.
