Mariah Carey is busily working in the studio on her upcoming album, the interestingly titled “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” It could very well be that this assiduous work itself led to a delay in terms of release of the material, as it has been pushed back from August 25 to September 15 without as much as a notice, The Examiner informs.

Fans were the first to notice the change on websites like Amazon.com, where it has been operated without an explanation. Mariah Carey, on her behalf, has said nothing of the delay, but it is believed she and her team had realized they would not have enough time to get the material into impeccable shape by the time it was scheduled for release. Therefore, instead of coming out with something they were not happy with, they chose to push the date back a bit, speculation has it.

“Mariah Carey is steady at work on the anticipated album ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.’ However, said work may have contributed to a change in release date Tuesday. According to digital retailers, including Amazon.com, Carey’s ‘Obsessed’ led album has been moved to a September 15 release. ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ had been set for release August 25th. Tweeting about the album early Tuesday, Carey wrote ‘Quick update-been in the studio finishing this album-hopefully coming overseas soon! Remix video of ‘Obsessed’ feating gucci mane on thurs!x’ As late as Tuesday evening, Carey’s official website ran with the date August 25, 2009.” The Examiner writes.

As noted above, no official stand on the last-minute change has yet been taken by camp Carey. Still, fans have waited for so long for this material, and it promises to be both so over-the-top and polished that they will undoubtedly find it in them to wait a few more days than initially announced, music-oriented publications believe. Either way, Mariah is expected to make a comment on this any minute now, so keep an eye on this space for when she does.

If the release date has indeed been changed and the album drops later than planned, fans will at least have Mariah’s first single off it, “Obsessed,” along with the terribly funny video that she just released, directed by none other than Brett Ratner.
