Budding romance started earlier this month but will come to an abrupt end soon

Earlier this month, word got out in the press that Taylor Swift and Patrick Schwarzenegger, the model son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, had spent the 4th of July together and were probably a couple – well, not if Maria has a say in it.

The tabloids are rehashing that story / rumors to say that, while the two seem quite fond of each other, the former Mrs. Schwarzenegger is determined to do all she can to keep them from becoming an item.

According to the Enquirer (story via CB), Maria even went through all the trouble to let Taylor know her true feelings: she likes her because she's a nice girl but she won't be coming one step closer to her son.

Admittedly, Maria fears Taylor might break Patrick's heart.

“Maria Shriver doesn’t want Taylor Swift singing any love songs to her hunk son Patrick Schwarzenegger – and she’s told the country superstar to take a hike. Maria fears Taylor will chew him up, spit him out and then write a song about him as she’s done with previous famous boyfriends,” the Enquirer writes.

Since this was out on the Internet shortly after it happened, Maria found out that the two spent the holiday together at the beach – and she made sure Taylor knew about it.

“Maria got word to Taylor and warned her not to get any ideas about dating Patrick. She basically told Taylor to 'back off',” an insider claiming to be well familiar with the situation is quoted as saying.

“Maria is worried that Taylor will lead Patrick on and then leave his heart shattered in a million pieces, like she’s done with other guys,” the spy goes on to say.

However, her fans must know, while Taylor is famous for her sometimes troubled romantic life, it's not her who's doing all the dumping but rather the other way around.

Even so, “[Maria]’s 100 percent opposed to Patrick dating her. He’s entering the University of Southern California in the fall and she doesn’t want anything distracting him,” the spy goes on to say.
