Maria Sharapova and Sony Ericsson Offer Free Mobile Content

- Via a mini-website

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

Sony Ericsson and Maria Sharapova, the well-known and much-admired female tennis player, recently decided to spice up a bit the lives of mobile users and launched a special mini-website from where everyone can download, for free, content related to both Maria and Sony Ericsson.

This "project" is part of the agreement signed by the Swedish-Japanese company with the pretty Maria, at the beginning of the year, according to which the young star became Sony Ericsson's brand ambassador for the next 4 years.

On the "Sony Ericssonapova" mini site (accessible at this address), fans of the handset manufacturer and/or of the tennis star player will find a series of wallpapers with Maria Sharapova, both for mobile phones and for PC use. For the moment, Maria is "coupled" with Z555i, the latest clamshell released by Sony Ericsson, hence the mobile wallpapers are especially made for this phone's screen, while the PC ones show Maria and the Z555i in various, um, positions.

Although the Z555i (recently reviewed by Softpedia) is an affordable device, it's a fashionable phone with a very nice design, and we have to admit that it looks good in Maria's hands.

In the future, Sony Ericsson and the 21 year old Russian girl will probably bring new content, both mobile and non-mobile, so those who like the handset manufacturer and the young tennis player will have more free stuff to download. Furthermore, since the 4 year period for which Maria will be SE's brand ambassador is quite a long one, we could even see one or more high-end handsets released "by" her. If you remember, back in 2007 there were rumors about a Sony Ericsson touchscreen interface named exactly "Maria", so we shouldn't be surprised if a handset dubbed "Sony Ericsson Maria" is eventually released.
