A little improv went a long way during auditions

One of the breakout stars of 2013 was Australian stunner Margot Robbie, who was cast as the female lead in the Martin Scorsese-directed “The Wolf of Wall Street.” She starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, who is famously “intense” during shoots, and she admits she got the part by doing a little improv during auditions.

Margot is now starring in “Focus” with Will Smith, and she’s promoting this movie by doing the April 2015 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. She talks about the role that launched her career and is still amused by how wrong the audition could have gone, especially since she got all caught up in the moment and slapped DiCaprio hard across the face.

She knew she had only about 30 seconds to make an impression on Scorsese and DiCaprio, so she decided to just go with it. “And so I start screaming at [Leo] and he’s yelling back at me. And he’s really scary. I can barely keep up,” she says.

Caught in the moment, she hit him in the face, told him to go eff himself and then just froze when she realized the entire room had gone “dead silent.” She’d gone off script and dared put hands on one of Hollywood’s most prized (and Oscar-snubbed) actors.

Naturally, she feared she’d be arrested for assault and probably even sued for every penny she had for leaving a mark on DiCaprio’s face. Instead, she got the job because she’d proved she could hold her own with him.

If you haven’t seen the movie and you want a sample of the kind of chemistry these two shared, here’s a video to illustrate it. *Please be advised that it contains graphic language that might offend. Also, Margot looking drop-dead gorgeous in a negligee.
