After becoming one of the greatest Italian trainers alive - winning the World Cup sure counted a lot - Marcello Lippi is now taking his rightful vacation. Away from the media and the Italian Calciopoli scandal, the former Squadra Azzurra coach thinks about what happened at the World Cup and the reasons why he chose to leave the national squad.
First of all, he wants to make one thing sure.
"All the Italian Football Federation officials knew that I was going to quit the job after the World Cup. One way or the other, I wouldn't have staid. What I've been through during the Calciopoli investigations and the fact that my own family was dragged into it was reason enough".
Lippi also assured his fans that he will not stay away from coaching too much. As a matter of fact, his main concern right now is to refill his batteries and take a fresh new start. Time is on his side right now and he is not desperate for anything. Whatever the timing, he will coach again.
"It won't have to be a great European club, though. I am happy with just coaching. Of course I wouldn't turn down such an opportunity, but that's not totally necessary. For the moment, I just want to rest and not think about it. The day will come when I'll have nothing on my mind but that".
Still, Lippi told Gazzetta dello Sport that he will not make his comeback into football right away. "I am very happy with the situation I'm in right now. This is the first time in the last 40 years that I've been vacationing with my family. And it's fun. I would say that my return to coaching is possible in about 4 or 5 months. But, you never know. We'll wait and see".
