Marcello Lippi's days on the Italian National team bench are believed to be numbered. His future along the "azzuri" depends much on the outcome of today's interrogatory. If found guilty of cooperating with Luciano Moggi, he is most likely to step down from his present head coach position.
Although, at first sight, it may seem like Lippi had nothing to do with the big scandal - the police is investigating the 2004/2005 season only, when Marcello Lippi was still head coach for
the national team - the technician is believed to have intentionally left non-Juve players on the bench.
During the interrogatory, the Italian journalists were able to hear a conversation between Lippi and the prosecutors, in which the technician admits that he told Cannavaro: "I`m sorry, but you can't play. You know it's not may call". In addition, Italian newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport" released another recorded conversation between the two, in which Moggi was forbidding Lippi to let Cannavaro play.
It seems that the reason why Lippi preferred Juventus players was for economically reasons only. It's pretty obvious that, once thay get to play for the Italian national team, their value on the market would have arose. On the other hand, Juventus forbid Lippi to select some of their own players, because that would have come across their short term objectives.
Along with Lippi's interrogatory, another episode of the Juve scandal took place today. Most of the players' houses had been searched after, no sooner than yesterday, the Italian IRS searched the Juventus offices and both Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo's apartments. Among those players, you could find Adrian Mutu, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alessandro Del Piero.
