MapQuest announced recently that it added My Places to its free, downloadable application, MapQuest 4 Mobile. According to the company, the new My Places feature allows users that have registered with MapQuest to save maps and routes to their profile on the MapQuest site, which can then be accessed either from their mobile phone or over the Internet.

MapQuest also announced that currently My Places on MapQuest 4 Mobile is available only for select BlackBerry smartphones, but that the company was working on making it available for more handsets and major mobile phone operating systems during the following months.

Users are able to set up an account on MapQuest's official website, and there they can view the locations they saved through MapQuest 4 Mobile. By expanding the service to the MapQuest 4 Mobile application, users have been offered the possibility to easily enhance their MapQuest experience while moving from desktop to the handset.

“The launch of My Places on MapQuest 4 Mobile further extends the MapQuest.com experience to mobile handsets,” said Christian Dwyer, senior vice president and general manager, MapQuest. “We’re pleased to be the first to market with this unique service, that allows our users to access saved maps and routes they’ve generated at MapQuest.com.”

My Places enables users to save their favorite maps and directions, while also allowing them to access the saved locations from any computer or mobile device. At the same time, they can even learn how much fuel they'll need for the upcoming trip.

According to MapQuest, those who already have the MapQuest 4 Mobile application installed will be prompted to upgrade to the latest version as soon as they launch the application. Those interested in downloading the free MapQuest 4 Mobile application with My Places integration on their mobile phones need to access m.mq4m.com on their handsets.
